 n conjunction with the NSW Forensic Dental Unit\, are pleased to present t
 he annual Forensic Odontology and Forensic Anthropology course. This four
 -day course will introduce participants to the scope and practice of foren
 sic odontology with particular emphasis on disaster victim identification.
 \n\nUtilisation of dental techniques for human identification are simple i
 n concept but complex in process. Participants will be guided through the 
 inter-related processes and procedures utilised in a disaster event.   Pr
 esentations on the Asian Tsunami and other mass fatality incidents are use
 d to illustrate the process.\n\nA practical component with a mock disaster
  exercise is held in the main mortuary. Exercises in tooth identification\
 , antemortem and postmortem radiographic matching and age estimation from 
 radiographic evidence are also components of the course.\n\nThe anthropolo
 gical component of the course is held at the Shellshear Museum at the Univ
 ersity of Sydney which represents a unique reference collection.  Here pa
 rticipants will work in groups to undertake a workshop on race\, sex\, age
  and stature estimation.\n\nParticipants will have a greater understanding
  of the value of the quality of their clinical records in the identificati

 omputerised dental &amp\; bite mark identification\n\nThe NSW Forensic Edu
 cation Committee is comprised of the following presenters:\n\nDr Denise Do
 nlon is a Senior Lecturer at Sydney University\, Curator of the Shellshear
  Museum\, and a Wing Commander in the RAAF Specialist Reserve.  Denise is
  a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Science in the Royal College of Patho
 logists of Australasia\n\nAssociate Professor Alex Forrest is an Associate
  Professor at Griffith University and a Wing Commander in the RAAF Special
 ist Reserve.  Alex is the Head of the Queensland Dental Identification Se
 rvice.\n\nDr Pamela Gower is a registered specialist forensic odontologist
  with the Dental Board of Australia and works in private practice in Sydne
 y.  Pamela is a long standing Visiting Dental Officer (Westmead Hospital)
  working in the NSW Dental Identification Unit.\n\nProfessor (Affifliate) 
 Chris Griffiths is Head of the NSW Dental Identification Unit.  Chris was
  previously Assistant Surgeon General\, Australian Defence Force and Direc
 tor General of Health Reserves. Chris was the first Scientific Vice-Chairm
 an of Interpol DVI Standing Committee.\n\nDr Russell Lain is a registered 
 specialist forensic odontologist with the Dental Board of Australia and wo
 rks as a Staff Specialist with Sydney Dental Hospital.  Russell is Lieute
 nant Commander in the RAN Reserve.\n\nDr Alain Middleton is a registered s
 pecialist forensic odontologist with the Dental Board of Australia and wor
 ks in private practice in Sydney.  Alain is a Squadron Leader in the RAAF
  Specialist reserve and is the Scientific Vice-Chairman of Interpol DVI St
 anding Committee.\n\nAssociate Professor Bill O’Reilly is Chair of the D
 ental Council of New South Wales.  He is dually qualified in dentistry an
 d law.  Bill has been President of ADA(NSW) and the Federal ADA.\n\nAssoc
 iate Professor Jane Taylor is an Associate Professor in Oral Health at the
  University of Newcastle. Jane is a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Oral
  and Maxillofacial Pathology (Forensic Odontology) in the Royal College of
  Pathologists of Australasia and is currently the Principal Examiner in Fo
