Welcome to members area.
Well, 2017 is here and well underway already.
Firstly, I want to congratulate Dr Alain Middleton, our past President, who was awarded a well deserved AO (Officer in the General Division) in the Australia Day honours list. The citation reads:
“For distinguished service to dentistry as a forensic odontologist, as a global expert in victim identification, and through the development of international standards in disaster response.”
I would also like to thank the outgoing Executive of the Society for their work over the last two years. The Society is in a very sound financial position for a small group, and this is a credit to them.
There are several meetings in the year ahead, and I would like to encourage members to attend. Apart from the chance to meet international and local colleagues, you can get some of those all important CPD hours! There are two particular meetings this year that may be of interest. Firstly Interpol are having their DVI meeting in Singapore for the first time, 15th-18th of May, with the Odontology session on 15th of May. It’s not clear how many Australians can attend, but if you are interested, please contact Alain Middleton as soon as possible, so we can co-ordinate numbers. Later in the year we have the IOFOS meeting in Leuven, Belgium from the 14th to 16th of September.
Our website has been updated and this is thanks to the efforts of Dr Sherlin Chiam who has been looking after the site. Our website is the place to find up to date information on meetings and useful information. We are trying to put as much information on the website as possible, and we have already had a number of general queries about membership this year. Most importantly there are a lot of DVI resources and our roster is on the website. Please let us know if you have any problems or suggestions for the website.
Finally, I have been in touch with Mr Ben Lamond, the DVI co-ordinator for the AFP, and arranged to meet him in the near future, to review our arrangements. Please let me know if you have any issues you would like raised.
Best wishes to all our members for 2017
Dr Mark Leedham
